Solar eclipses in Spain.
The date changes the map.
As of 23 October 2026, Spain’s next total solar eclipse is on 2 August 2027. The 12 August 2026 event has passed; 26 January 2028 brings an annular eclipse. These events do not share one path.
Eclipse dates: 2026, 2027 and 2028
The calendar from IGN distinguishes these three events in Spain. Each event’s path determines where the central phase is visible; places outside it may see a partial eclipse.

| Annular · future; a separate event and path. | IGN’s official 2028 information |
When is the next solar eclipse?
“Next” can mean the next eclipse worldwide or the next one visible from your city. According to NASA, the next solar eclipse worldwide after this review is the annular event on 6 February 2027, with its annular path crossing parts of South America and Africa. It is a different event from August’s total eclipse.
For a trip to Spain’s 2027 total eclipse, start with the location rather than a broad search for “eclipse in Europe”. Madrid and Barcelona have only a partial eclipse at our calculated points; Cádiz and Málaga have totality. Compare exact coordinates before choosing a stay.
What time is the eclipse today or tomorrow?
A search saying “today” does not identify an eclipse or a country. This is a dated reference, not a daily astronomy alert. First check the full date, then whether the event is solar or lunar. The official calendar from IGN distinguishes them.
- Select the event by day, month and year.
- Open that event’s map and mark your exact location.
- Check first contact, maximum and last contact; if totality occurs, also note its start and end.
- Read the time zone: UTC and local civil time are not interchangeable.
The London schedule shows the difference between the British clock and CEST. A lunar eclipse needs a different timetable: this site’s solar contacts cannot be used.
How to read a totality map
On the maps from NASA 2026 and NASA 2027, the path limits are not administrative boundaries. Mark a particular address inside the path and read its contacts. Being near the centre line generally increases geometric duration, but does not clear cloud or establish access to a site.
Our 2027 location comparison separates eclipse type and duration using a common CEST reference. Then check site obstacles using IGN’s guidance.

Frequently asked questions
Will the next total eclipse be total everywhere in Spain?
No. On 2 August 2027 you must be inside the totality path to see the total phase. Madrid and Barcelona see a partial eclipse at our guides’ reference points.
Will the 2028 eclipse be total?
The 26 January 2028 eclipse is annular: a ring of the Sun remains visible even inside its path. It does not offer the same total phase as 2 August 2027.
Can a solar eclipse timetable be used for a lunar eclipse?
No. They are different events with different dates, contacts and visibility regions. Select the exact event in an official astronomical calendar and check your location’s time.
