Eclipse 2027.
Spain & North Africa.
On 2 August 2027, totality crosses the Strait. Compare destinations in Spain, Gibraltar and North Africa, from Tangier to Luxor.
Where it will be total
The path includes much of Cádiz province, part of Málaga, Ceuta and Melilla, plus parts of the far south of Granada and Almería provinces. That does not mean their capitals are inside: Granada and Almería city see a partial eclipse in our dataset.
Tangier and Tétouan in Morocco also lie inside the path. Gibraltar is listed separately; Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish cities.
One clear time reference
Every time in this guide uses CEST (UTC+2), mainland Spain’s eclipse-day clock. Do not confuse it with local time in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Portugal or the UK. Confirm the local time zone when planning your trip.
NEXO APEX computes these estimates with Skyfield and the JPL DE421 ephemeris for the coordinates in the linked dataset. These are geometric contacts: the model uses fixed lunar radii, without lunar-limb terrain or atmospheric refraction. Check your exact spot with IGN or NASA.

The shadow continues across North Africa
Beyond the Strait, totality passes through Oran, Sfax, Benghazi and the Luxor region. Our North Africa guide compares five cities using astronomical sources and practical questions for travellers and hosts.
Compare North Africa destinationsCheck each destination’s clock
The tables in this guide use a common CEST (UTC+2) reference. Do not read those values as local time in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya or Egypt without checking the time zone and exact location. For destinations beyond the Strait, follow the sources in each city guide and verify timings for your coordinates.

The path across the Strait
Inside the band, the Sun is fully covered for a few minutes. Outside it, the eclipse is partial.
Durations are of totality at each town centre. Anything outside the band sees a deep partial eclipse, not darkness.

Arrive with time to spare
Aim to arrive by 1 August. Confirm transport, access to your accommodation and a viewing spot you can reach without relying on a last-minute journey.
For travel to Morocco or Gibraltar, check entry requirements, travel documents and official transport schedules. A home inside the path does not guarantee a sky clear of buildings, trees or cloud.
Watch safely
During every partial phase, use appropriate solar viewers compliant with ISO 12312-2. Sunglasses do not protect your eyes for eclipse viewing. Binoculars, telescopes and cameras need proper solar filters.
Check weather forecasts close to the date and follow local access rules and instructions.
Eclipse questions
When is the eclipse?
Monday 2 August 2027. In Algeciras, totality is estimated from 10:45:26 to 10:49:56 CEST, lasting 4 min 30 s. Check your destination: timings vary by location.
Will it be total everywhere in Spain or Morocco?
No. You must be inside the path of totality. The guide separates total-eclipse locations from places that see only a partial eclipse. Confirm your exact position with the IGN and NASA maps.
What will the weather be like?
Visibility is not guaranteed. Check official forecasts close to the date and confirm access to your chosen viewing location.
Do I need eclipse glasses?
Yes, during every partial phase. Use appropriate solar viewers compliant with ISO 12312-2; sunglasses are not suitable. Never look through binoculars, telescopes or cameras without proper solar filters. Follow official safe-observing guidance.
Where do the timings come from?
They are estimates computed using the JPL DE421 ephemeris for the coordinates shown on each town page. Times can differ from other sources. They do not replace checking your exact site or following safety instructions.
